This Director level role sits within Working Title Television, reporting to and supporting the VP Legal & Business Affairs, Scripted. Working Title Television (WTTV) is a joint venture with Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Recent productions include London Spy starring Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling for BBC Two, You, Me and the Apocalypse starting Rob Lowe for Sky 1 and Yonderland for Sky 1.

Qualifications/Requirements KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Manage, with the VP L&BA Scripted, the day-to-day legal and business affairs matters arising in connection with the development, production and financing of WTTV’s television productions.
•Negotiate, draft and review the full range of agreements in the context of television and digital development and production and the formats licensing (e.g. development agreements, format licences, production commissioning agreements, co-production agreements, first look agreements, as well as contributor, talent, location, facilities, supplier and access agreements)
•Provide advice and support, as required, on all WTTV programme-related legal and business affairs activities including clearance, negative checking, rights licensing and general contracting.
•Advise on all matters relating to talent unions, applicable guild provisions, royalties and residuals.
•Advise on production incentives in the principal territories in which WTTV produces content.
•Advise on underlying rights, chain of title, copyright and other intellectual property issues in the context of both UK and US rights-holders.
•Ensure that production activities are in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations in all relevant territories and with the company’s corporate compliance policies and best practice procedures.
•Support the VP L&BA Scripted in maintaining good relations with all relevant talent agencies and senior business affairs executives of the principal UK broadcasters.
•Support the VP L&BA Scripted in proactively managing a scripted content compliance programme for all relevant creative and business executives (and where relevant, third parties).
•Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of commercial and legal developments in all major markets in scripted production and advise the creative teams at WTTV accordingly.
•Generally ensure all contractual documentation is completed to required standards and assist in keeping contracting processes and precedents current and effective.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

•A qualified lawyer with 5 years post-qualification experience.
•Expertise in feature film or television is essential, ideally in the area of scripted television.
•In-house experience is highly desirable, but otherwise television production experience with a law firm would be considered.
•Hands-on experience of the types of contracts and agreements handled in the role is essential.
•Experience of advising or working with broadcasters, distributors and producers on intellectual property issues is highly desirable.
•Experience gained in a leading law firm or multinational company with an international outlook.
•Strong educational background
