Responsibilities
In partnership with the Direct Lending Origination team, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the fundamental credit analysis, and managing the investment process, of direct lending investments for mid-market corporates in the UK and Western Europe. The role will entail the following:
Full involvement in the investment evaluation process including attendance at management presentations, review of due diligence reports, and preparation of internal investment proposals in conjunction with originators
Calibrating the financing needs and structures for prospective borrowers
Financial modelling of investment opportunities
Optimizing the balance between the return hurdles, asset quality, and portfolio diversification strategies
Interacting with management teams, industry sources, and other investment professionals
Seeking solutions to deal structures and issues within the boundaries of policies and fund parameters in co-ordination with the originator and external participants
Present Portfolio Manager/s and Investment Committee/s with a clear and consistent approach to mitigate credit, legal, industry and other relevant risks
Champion selected investment opportunities (in coordination with Origination) through the investment process until completion
Providing input on terms and conditions for transactions and working with Origination and Legal to ensure appropriate documentation
Negotiation and review of transaction legal documentation and liaising with internal and external legal advisers
Ongoing monitoring of portfolio assets including waivers & amendments, contributing to the quarterly fund valuation process and reporting to investors
Involvement in providing portfolio reports and analytics for internal and external use
Resolving problem accounts in partnership with other teams and specialists
Mentor junior credit analysts and working with other senior members of the firm in further developing the direct lending strategy
Ensuring compliance with credit policies and procedures.
Adhering to investment process and operational standards
Helping to identify and manage operational risks
Knowledge / Experience
Experience in the structuring and executing of direct lending/private debt and/or leveraged finance transactions
Expert credit analyst with proven experience of identifying profitable investment opportunities based on extensive fundamental research
Very strong credit/financial statement analysis and financial modelling skills, experience with legal documentation, and keen attention to detail
Ability to direct the structuring of a transaction and work with originators to complete investment opportunities
Motivated team player who can also work independently
Open-minded though process, intellectual honesty, and the flexibility to adapt to coverage of different products
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present ideas in a clear, concise and constructive manner
First-rate academic background
Fluency in English (required) and fluency in a second European language (preferred)
