Job Description:
As the Executive Director, Business Affairs, you will be a key member of the SPHE Worldwide Business Affairs team, which collectively handles all business affairs activities relating to the physical and digital distribution of home entertainment content throughout the world.
You will work collaboratively with, and serve as the primary advisor to, senior management responsible for SPHE’s operations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, on all business affairs matters, and will be expected to provide guidance and direction reflecting sound judgment aligned with the strategic vision and culture of the company.
You will utilize your substantive distribution, acquisitions, digital rights and international business affairs knowledge to structure and negotiate deals for the acquisition and exploitation of home entertainment rights to motion pictures and television programs in the EMEA region.
In addition, you will also assist the Senior Vice President, Business Affairs on departmental projects.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
Advise SPHE’s senior team in the EMEA region regarding home entertainment business affairs matters including distribution strategies, product acquisitions, supplier management and cross-divisional agreements
Lead negotiations of complex distribution partnerships, licensing deals, acquisition deals, and other initiatives
Coordinate with the legal department to oversee drafting of agreements
Work with the commercial team to establish operating guardrails to ensure a balance of risk and reward
Conceive and structure new business models and distribution opportunities
Liaise with others in SPHE’s Worldwide Business Affairs team responsible for global contract administration, rights authentication, database/system maintenance, account management and materials servicing
Desired Skills and Experience
Education/Qualifications
Suitable candidates will typically have 5 years of Business Affairs experience, with at least 3 years in the home entertainment space, including transactional digital business models (e.g., VOD and EST).
Law degree and a strong academic background
Studio or production company experience preferable
Experience as a qualified solicitor who trained at a well-regarded firm preferable
Proficiency in French preferred (but not required)
Skills and Experience
Extensive knowledge of home entertainment transactional distribution models, across all physical and digital formats, and an understanding of the inter-relationships between each model
Deep knowledge of contract, copyright, and trademark law, and a familiarity with guild agreements and obligations
Working knowledge of distribution windows (theatrical, pay & free television, SVOD, etc.) and multiple forms of distribution (e.g., cable, satellite, VOD, PPV, free television, DTV, mobile, etc.)
Ability to work closely with tax, transactional legal, music legal and business affairs, consumer products business affairs, and other groups and divisions, both locally and in the SPHE home office in Culver City, California, to close deals and to accomplish SPHE’s strategic objectives
Experience working in a multinational company and coordinating with multiple divisions is preferable
