Job description
The Purpose Of This Role Is To
Enable the successful execution of pipeline innovation projects by providing microbiological expertise and facilities to develop and conduct microbiological tests to support product claims, demonstrate product microbiological quality and determine product shelf life.
Strategy setting
• Define the strategy for microbiological testing of all classes of product developed by the CH organisation
• In collaboration with stakeholders in GMS and QC, ensure that state of the art microbiological test methods are employed in the CH organisation, with the goal of continual improvement of effectiveness and efficiency.
• Train coach and develop category R&D staff on the microbiological standards to be met and challenges associated with the development of Consumer Health products.
Delivery
• Provide technical leadership to project teams in the area of microbiological science ensuring that challenges are identified, risk mitigation strategies proposed and that the appropriate microbiological science activities are planned and executed in line with overall project milestones.
• Prepare documentation for internal use and regulatory submission including, SOPs, technical reports and dossier modules.
• Ensure proactive management of external regulatory trends that have the potential to impact microbiological sciences operations.
• Lead the microbiological assessment of products to be licenced in from third parties
• Provide technical leadership to teams dealing with post launch microbiological issues ensuring the timely completion of investigations and required follow up / remedial action
• Develop methods and conduct testing required to support product claims, demonstrate product microbiological quality and product stability
• Validate microbiological test methods and transfer to the Quality Control labs
• Oversee the microbiological environmental testing program associated with the R&D GMP pilot plants.
• Maintain qualified and compliant internal laboratory capability to support microbiological testing
• Maintain a network of qualified and compliant third party laboratories to support microbiological testing
• Mange departmental budget and resources, ensuring that sufficient capacity is available to meet all project needs.
• Work with category R&D heads and other stakeholders to plan activities with the goal of respecting business priorities and minimising project delays.
Team
• Recruit maintain and develop a team of microbiological scientists with the appropriate skills and resources necessary to support all CH R&D microbiological activities.
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Microbiology (Microbiological sciences is a specialised discipline and the microbiologist will be expected to lead technical activities within GSK or third party laboratories as well as be able to consult on Manufacturing microbiological issues).
• The role is to lead a team of microbiology professionals focussed on the delivery of microbiological objectives in the five therapeutic categories with GSK Consumer Healthcare. A proven ability to lead people and to represent the Microbiological Sciences department within R&D and other departments in GSK including Manufacturing.
• Excellent leadership skills and enterprise thinking.
• Microbiological Science experience gained in the field of consumer / heathcare product development.
• Proven record of supporting business objectives
• Ability to apply scientific principles and techniques and to oversee his team in the application of these principles to assigned projects
• Demonstrated skill in project participation or management.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think and work independently, problem-solve and work effectively in teams
• Excellent written/oral communication skills, interpersonal relationship building and team working skills
