Reporting into the Global Business Services Sr Director, this role will own the global payroll process and be responsible for the strategic delivery of payroll services to Discovery employees globally. Responsible for defining and implementing the payroll strategy across and within regions, this individual will provide firm oversight of third party payroll partners where applicable, and manage all payroll and associated tax and legal processes for Discovery businesses

This role is pivotal to developing best in class payroll processes across the globe that minimize cost, maximizes quality and control, whilst meeting employee needs and complying with all local fiscal regulations.
Design and develop a global and regional payroll strategy that delivers benefit to Discovery businesses and employees
Manage third party payroll providers, ensuring clear SLA’s and governance processes are in place with each provider. Maintain a scorecard with each provider that monitors key elements of payroll delivery including employee satisfaction, and hold providers accountable for meeting agreed targets.
Ownership and management of third party contracts, including; (1) liaising with local HR/Finance and Procurement as necessary to achieve optimal pricing for services delivered, (2) ensuring that local requirements are fully encompassed in contract agreements.
Manage payroll activities globally to ensure all tax filings, legal and regulatory and reporting deadlines are complied with.
Manage relationships with local HR and Finance Teams through regular meetings/calls ensuring constant communication and transparency.
Drive improvement to accuracy and timeliness of source data provided from HR sources and systems.
Ensure GL Balance Sheet reconciliations are performed for all GL accounts and all businesses, to Corporate Accounting timescales, ensuring reconciling items and reviewed and cleared.
Oversee and manage accurate and timely payroll processing for Stock Options, ICP, Tax settlements, expatriate (”ex-pat”) payrolls etc., working with third party accounting specialists where appropriate.
Support and assist the Global Mobility team in discussing transfers and review agreements for transfers and repatriations. Provide payroll support to the ex-pat community for tax filings across jurisdictions, and provide all necessary supporting documentation.
Ensure payroll processes globally comply with SOX requirements, maintain and consolidate SOX narratives where appropriate, and drive standardisation of payroll process. Work with internal and external audit teams to complete SOX certifications and ensure compliant and controlled payroll processes.
Manage and develop payroll team employees globally, develop growing capability through development plans, seek to cross train the team’s knowledge and expertise across regions.
Create a positive customer service environment where employee enquiries and requests are responded timely / as needed and employees are educated on our tools and services.
Ensure improvements, best practice, efficiency and savings transfer across global process teams.
Work with teams to map processes and ensure process documentation is maintained and updated with changes to processes and SOX controls are updated where appropriate.
Develop clear metric reporting to demonstrate performance.
Integrate new companies and standalone Discovery subsidiaries as necessary.
Requirements:

10-15 year career experience of payroll processing and management of global payroll processes delivered through a hybrid of captive centers and third party providers.
Extensive experience of payroll legislation across regions (U.S./UK/mainland Europe)
Knowledge and understanding of the various tax filings required in major US/Europe regions (P35, PSA & Form 42, Form 40, Form 941, etc.)
Experience of managing disparate payroll delivery models including in-house, fully managed outsourcing, in-country specialists, and both large and local payroll providers.
Experience with differing payroll elements including variable bonus schemes, stock purchases, stock option exercises, ex-pat payrolls etc.
Strong experience of managing third party payroll providers
Experience of migrating payrolls across systems, payroll providers and countries
Ability to manage global functional teams directly and via matrix structures
Experience of payroll related accounting and reconciliation requirements
Good relationship builder, able to work with Finance and HR teams and HR Specialists – Global Mobility, Stock Plans, HR Data teams and local HR teams in country
Ambitious and with good judgement, able to develop and adapt strategy to meet the needs of the business and employees
Strong experience of SAP financial and HR systems preferable
Demonstrated experience of working with multi-lingual, diverse team members required
Strong commitment to teamwork through relationship-building, reliability, and collaboration
