Job Description:
The Investment Counsellor (IC) function exists to provide consistent, proactive investment services to clients, based on the RBC House Views and investment policy, in order to maximize the performance of their portfolios in line with investment objectives and profile.
As part of their business development responsibility ICs proactively partner with designated Sales and Relationship Management (S&RM) team(s) to articulate investment proposition.
ICs Develop and implement investment proposals using RBC WM core discretionary portfolios and other in-house or 3rd party products.
ICs monitor investment portfolios and rebalances to ensure alignment of asset allocation with client’s investment objectives and risk tolerance.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide quality Investment Management services to High and Ultra High Net Worth clients of WM with appropriate coverage by specific market segment.
Promote and communicate internally the strengths and capabilities of WM Investment Services across all product capabilities with focus on mandated activities, such Discretionary portfolio management or Advisory mandates as well as through satellite ideas from relevant product specialist areas (structured products, hedge funds, etc.) as appropriate.
Align specifically with S&RM and with specified target segments assist in business development and strategic planning in partnership with those RMs. Be seen as the point of reference for all investment services.
Develop and provide investment proposals suitable to client’s requirements and risk appetite.
Accept client advisory transaction orders and handle them in accordance with Policy and Desk Procedures.
Source relevant approved offerings, information and idea creation from product specialist groups within WM including Structured Products, Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange and Fund Solutions as appropriate.
Be a strong team player working closely with all support staff as well as other members of the Investments team (providing back-up to other team members where necessary).


Core objectives for ICs as follows:

Portfolio Advisory:
Monitor portfolios of investment clients with advice in line with long term SAA view and shorter term TAA views.
When required and suitable, recommend adjustments to portfolio in line with bank’s investment view, as cornerstone of Investment Counsellor function. Communicate to the client.
Work in partnership with S&RM to implement Strategic Client Reviews and maximise client relationship value.
Relentlessly seek to increase quality and frequency of advice.


S&RM Support
Communicate global investment view and relevant products associated for satellite implementation
For non-advisory clients support focused on product communication and use of standard offerings (discretionary / modulated or thematic advisory).

EDUCATION &/OR EXPERIENCE

Extensive Financial Markets, Investments, Securities and trade execution experience essential.
Solid direct client facing investment management services experience specifically within the HNW / UHNW segments and across most asset classes.
Strong understanding of regulatory and legal framework surrounding a financial services business.
FCA Registered (CF 30) and RDR compliant (PCIAM).
Educated to Graduate or Masters level.

Technical skills required include: Extensive software skills including proficiency in use of relevant systems (Office applications, Bloomberg etc.,), strong research skills and ability to perform quickly and accurately.
Behavioural competencies required include: strong inter-personal and written communication skills, pro-activity and self-motivated, analytical skills and critical thinking (including ability to interpret data), teamwork, strong organization and time management skills (must be able to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks).
