KEY PURPOSE OF ROLE
Cost Transformation / Margin Management
• Financial controller for Broadband; Revenue £1.4bn, Gross Margin £650m
• Own and manage Month end processes, risks and ops and bi-annual Forecasts
Watch: Career Advice
• Leads on specific programmes to drive bottom line improvements such as reducing hub costs, increasing use of fibre self-install
• Identifies opportunities to optimise costs or improve revenue by benchmarking against internal and external best practice
• Leads ownership of network costs including internal Infrastructure charge
• Leads ownership of network costs, including the relationship between Consumer & TSO for Infrastructure costs and Consumer & Openreach for BB related charges
• Analyse the revenue and margin impact of investment decisions and impacts from trading decisions
Business Partnering / Strategy
• Works effectively with the Operational GMs (for Broadband) & Finance leadership (for Commercial, Marketing & Digital) and influences the future strategy of the business through effective business partnering
• Full P&L ownership including Interpreting, explaining and driving performance within the business by providing insight to our operational colleagues that will help identify opportunities
• Effective in communicating financial information. For example, providing a high quality month end pack that explains in simple language the driver of variances to budget
• Supporting and influencing key operational and strategic decisions, managing the tension between driving volumes at the expense of long term profit
• Advising on key business planning assumptions, trade-offs and opportunities, leading the forecasting process
• Owning the key business case and business case assumptions for BTs exploitation of the Fibre network
• Responsible for managing the offshore resource support
• Effective in communicating financial information and responsible for Director month end pack explaining the results, and the outlook for risk and ops
• Owner of risk and ops process working closely with each of the finance and commercial to track with accuracy the outlook for future months. Shared monthly with central finance and Group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Month end
• Ensures costs are reflected accurately
• Produces month end report including variance analysis and risks and ops for the Director of Broadband & Bundling
• Own P&L, working capital, cash and stock processes at month including outlooks
• Standards

o Follows up on key issues and rives resolution
Forecasting
• Ensures that the forecast of revenue and costs are fully underpinned by detailed operational assumptions.
• Sets stretching goals but aligns these with specific plans that are committed by the Director of the unit.
• Clearly articulates the key hydraulics that are driving variances YOY and to prior forecasts.
• Identifies the key risks and opportunities to the forecast.
• Manage and own the forecast slide pack for MD/CEO and FD/CFO meetings, working closely with the commercial team to underpin the Broadband walks
• Presents the forecast to the MD & FD Commercial, Marketing & Digital, CEO and CFO of BT Consumer
Business cases for investment
• Prioritise spend within the affordability envelope using KPIs that can be measured/tracked to maximise benefits
• Consistent appraisal of investments across the Consumer business
• Providing insight (e.g. previous experience, actual performance of similar businesses) to set the right benchmark and identify opportunities.
• Presents cases for material investments over £1m to the MD & FD Commercial, Marketing & Digital.
• Lead on Group cases impacting network costs
Cost Transformation
• Directly negotiates with suppliers up to a contract value of £0.5m.
• Leads specific programmes to deliver cost transformation targets of £20m+.
Margin Management
• Supports specific margin management programmes
• Governs the sign off of special offers ensuring discount investments deliver the maximum return.
• Supports the pricing strategy for the product portfolio
Leadership
• Sets out the vision and principles as to the way we work with both finance and commercial teams
