Job description
As a Programme Director with Royal Mail you will take overall responsibility for a portfolio of projects, solutions & people and be accountable for end to end programme delivery. Through a team of Programme & Project Managers you will own the project delivery process, ensuring that selected suppliers deliver; acquiring & utilising the necessary resources & skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality. Any previous experience in logistics/supply chain type programmes preferred.
Key Accountabilities
To oversee multiple workstreams of Project Management, Business Change Management, Applications Development (principally outsourced) and Application Portfolio Management processes, disciplines and resources
To lead delivery management across concurrent projects / programmes with accountability for multiple budgets, timescales and resources and where there Communication to and interaction with senior stakeholders typically operating at or just below board level
Accountable for delivery of RM IS initiatives (technology, processes, people) as assigned by the Solutions Delivery Director
Accountable for planning and monitoring the portfolio of projects; agree plans with the Executive Project Board and submit regular Highlight Reports via Project Assurance indicating any deviations and corrective action taken
Accountable for managing risks, issues, and change, escalating & proposing possible solutions where necessary
Responsible for managing third party suppliers to achieve the desired programme outcomes
Responsible for coordinating activities and dependencies within the programme and identifying external dependencies on other projects, resource or environments
Responsible for forming and managing effective relationships with business stakeholders
Desired Skills and Experience
Key Dimensions
Manage all Programmes and Projects from the RMG IT side. Responsible for costs, quality and time; and delivery of outcomes and deliverables that are fit for purpose, support the required business changes and the consequent benefits realisation.
Key Competencies
Previous experience in logistics/supply chain type programmes preferred. In particular, PDA/Handheld and complex IT Integration experience would be desirable.
Proven track record and experience in all project lifecycle phases (e.g. strategy, business case, contracting, mobilisation, requirements gathering, design, build, test, implementation, transition to support)
Strong pedigree on large (£30M+) systems integration programmes in a multi-vendor landscape
Demonstrable experience and/or formal project management qualifications, tools and techniques
The ability to manage conflicting priorities, differing reporting lines, multi-site programmes and projects
Demonstrate outstanding stakeholder, people management, coaching and leadership skills
To be able to manage conflicting priorities, and have the experience and skills to handle a high degree of ambiguity in potential approaches and requirements
