Job Description
Reporting into the Group Managing Director, the Fulfilment and Supply Chain Manager and Site Leader is responsible for planning and managing the company’s supply chain through both its own cross-dock fulfilment centre in Gloucester, UK and through the development of a network of third party drop-ship partners around the world. Leading a team of managers and supervisors responsible for day to day fulfilment centre operations, a key responsibility of this role is managing partnerships and negotiating with external vendors nationally and internationally, including drop-shippers, carriers and employment agencies, as well as partnering internally with other stakeholders within the business such as Customer Service, Commercial, Technology, Finance and other senior managers. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader and communicator, who’s comfortable with strategy, planning, technology and financial modelling.
Location
This role is based at the company’s fulfilment centre in Gloucester, UK with regular days spent at the head office in central London and occasional international travel.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for the company’s fulfilment operations including the Gloucester Fulfilment Centre and developing an international network of fulfilment partners.
Planning of the company’s fulfilment strategy including forecasting and profitability.
Managing relationships with suppliers for fulfilment, shipping, packaging and labour, including planning, negotiating terms and auditing.
Managing the Operations team in Gloucester against defined metrics, with overall responsibility for health, safety and compliance with employment and environmental regulations.
Procurement of packaging, consumables and material handling equipment.
Looking forward for worldwide events that might impact the company’s supply chain and making and implementing contingency plans.
Working with the commercial, technical and Customer Service teams within The Book Depository to ensure that supply chain issues are communicated and addressed.
As a member of The Book Depository’s leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy and planning, ensuring that Fulfilment is supporting the company’s vision and strategy.
Bachelor degree, preferably BSc or BEng
General management experience in a similar environment of continuous improvement within fast moving production and operations
Experience of negotiating with suppliers and forging long term business relationships with third parties
Intense customer focus
Deep analytic skills and experience using metrics to inform decisions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
MBA
Six Sigma Black Belt or similar
