Director International Privacy American Express London

Job Description:
This new Director position will be part of the Global Privacy team within the American Express Chief Privacy Office and will report to the Chief Privacy Officer, International. The position is located in London and is part of American Express' second line risk oversight function within Risk and Information Management.
Privacy is a key contributor to loyalty, customer experience, and the American Express brand. Properly assessing, managing and overseeing global privacy risk is critical to the Company’s business. A successful candidate will be a strong leader and privacy subject matter expert who is current on industry activities and emerging technologies.
They will lead a team focused on privacy risk oversight across lines of business in international (non US) markets and will support and align with the Company’s Market Data Protection Officers (DPOs) who are located across non-U.S. Markets within Compliance.

It is important for the candidate to be a strong team player who is comfortable interacting with legal, compliance, operational risk, operational excellence, information security, public affairs and many other partners to promote privacy throughout the enterprise.

Responsibilities

· Leading the provision of privacy risk management advice, strategic guidance and consultation to business units operating in international markets;

· Overseeing the development, coordination and implementation of American Express’ global privacy program in international business units and markets;

· Ensuring adherence to the enterprise privacy risk appetite in international;

· Partnering with Compliance in drafting and maintaining Market Privacy Policies and overseeing legal/regulatory change management;

· Driving effective management and implementation of global or cross-market privacy projects and initiatives (providing leadership on the strategy/approach);

· Developing a high performing team of privacy professionals across international;

· Fostering a culture of privacy at American Express by advocating for privacy-by-design, integration of the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles, accountability and sharing of best practices

Skills Required

· Leadership skills with ability to build relationships, mobilise cross functional teams and work independently in a highly matrixed organization highly desired

· Understanding of privacy legal and regulatory requirements within Europe required Appreciation of various privacy requirements and cultural perceptions of privacy in Asia, Latin America and Canada highly desired

· Experience in privacy compliance and/or risk management and oversight required, and familiarity with developing operational risk controls desired

· Highly organised and superb writing/communication skills required

· Knowledge in digital technologies and the online space (e.g. social media, cookies, mobile apps, Big Data, alternative payments), with particular focus on how these technologies are used to collect, use and/or share personal information preferred

· Strong project management skills with proficiency in managing multiple priorities simultaneously required

· Experience at a financial services, digital or technology company preferred

· Relevant professional qualifications preferred, e.g. LLB or LLM, JD, Master’s degree in Public Policy or equivalent, Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification.

· Intellectual curiosity – looking to grow and progress at American Express.
