Job Description:
The Global Business Operations team (GBO) works across strategy and operations to deliver strategically important projects for Discovery’s international business (DNI). GBO provides analytical & strategic expertise, project management, and process & organizational optimization services. This position will be focused on leading strategic thinking and management of complex projects that span across multiple functions and regions.

The position will demand a high degree of collaboration with members of different groups both domestically and internationally, including senior business units, and corporate groups. Strong strategic planning, very strong problem solving and project management skills are critical. The role also demands sound analytical, communication, and people management skills The ability to lead “stand alone” project-based teams as well as work as a contributing member are essential.

1.) Strategic Planning and Problem Structuring - Guide strategic thinking to identify, prioritize, design, structure, and manage projects that support DNI strategic and operational priorities (40%)

2.) Client Management and Communication - Develop, manage, and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to help support planning and execution of strategic goals (30%)

3.) Analysis - Complete analysis tasks where needed on projects (structure problems, data analysis, process design, organize and communicate findings) (20%)

4.) Team Management - Develop direct report staff and coach/mentor other members of the Global Business Operations team (10%)

1.) Guide strategic thinking to identify, prioritize, structure and manage projects that support DNI strategic and operational priorities (40%)
Provide leadership on individual projects, structuring the analyses to be conducted, developing recommendations based on data and analytics and providing direction to junior team members
Be able to critically review junior team member’s analysis, findings, and recommendations
Be a team member on some projects, owning own Workstream end-to end (structuring, analysis, recommendations)
Be ultimately responsible for the appropriate pace/on time execution of projects
Prepare and manage project plans and timelines
Assemble representative project teams
Conduct status meetings
Escalate issues as required
Keep internal GBO and external DNI stakeholders regularly updated
Maintain updated understanding of DNI strategy and operational implications

2.) Develop, manage, and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to help support planning and execution of strategic goals (30%)
Establish productive and collaborative relationships with senior leadership
Facilitate flow of information between stakeholders (through both strong written and verbal communication)
Act as catalyst for effective alignment between groups: help expose needs, interdependencies, limitations, constraints, and mitigate potential silo approaches

3.) Analysis - Complete analysis tasks where needed on projects (structure problems, data analysis, process design, organize and communicate findings) (20%)
Perform detailed analysis tasks that include: process mapping/design, data gathering/validation, and data modeling/analysis
Identify relevant links, interdependencies, and synergies within DNI business
Translate links/interdependencies within business into relevant solutions that support project definition or alignment of strategy within the wider DNI structure
Syndicate analysis and incorporate feedback

4.) Team Management - Develop direct report staff and coach/mentor other members of the Global Business Operations team (10%)
Develop direct report team members to meet and exceed current job qualifications as well as become integral members of the GBO team
Help empower team members to complete activities
Coach team on: a. strategic thinking, b. influence techniques, c. project management, and d. stakeholder relationships
Extensive consulting experience on strategy topics.
MBA or similar Masters require.
Proven track record leading global projects.
Must have ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership.
Clear understanding of the international business environment.
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong facilitation and negotiation skills.
Must be highly organized and able to project manage large scale projects.
Strong leadership skills.
Proven experience managing direct reports.
Media experience desirable but not required.
Second language skills desirable but not required.
