Role Profile
Full-time role within the London Planning Team, which forms part of the Development Consulting Team
To work as part of the Development Consulting Team in the preparation and implementation of the Development Consulting Business Plan; reporting to (Business Unit Manager)
To work alongside other Planning Directors and Associates in the preparation and implementation of the Planning Business Plan
Fulfil revenue and profit targets


Core Responsibilities

Profit & Finance
Contribute to meeting the Development Consulting Team fee target (and Planning Team fee target) through winning and delivering a minimum of £400k of planning consultancy work per annum (once established)
Accurate fee forecasting, managing potential fee pipeline and invoicing


Clients & Marketing
Working within a team providing professional town planning consultancy advice across a range of sectors (e.g. residential, retail and education), focusing on:
Advising on and securing planning permission, listed building consent and conservation area consent;
Targeting business development in the retail, education and residential sectors, to include retailers, developers, investors, landowners, education bodies and the public sector; and
A geographical focus on London and the South East.
Develop and maintain key client relationships to drive a good pipeline of future instructions
Establish and maintain own and team profile internally and externally through effective PR

People & Teams
Working with other directors, provide direction, guidance and leadership to the London Planning Team
Manage those under direct line management; ensuring direct reports are meeting their project and personal objectives
Develop relationships and liaise with internal teams, in particular with the Retail and Residential teams
Participate in non fee-generating activities which support business development

Operations & Risk
Manage risk in accordance with the firms procedures and guidelines; in particular ensuring all projects have signed fee agreements recorded on BAIT


Qualifications
First degree in relevant subject
Post-graduate degree in relevant subject
Member of the RTPI
Member of external professional body (optional)


Knowledge & Experience
Extensive professional experience of working in a town planning consultancy, ideally at Director level
Proven track record across a variety of sectors
Professional experience of providing technical advice across the planning consultancy sector including preparing and negotiating planning permissions, listed building consent and conservation area consent applications, planning appraisals, development plan representations and giving general planning consultancy advice
Professional experience of providing expert planning advice at a planning appeal
Professional experience of advising major ‘blue chip’ clients
Experience of providing town planning advice and managing projects to deliver seamless client service
Demonstrable ability to lead large complex client instructions
High level business and report writing skills
Excellent project management skills
High level client management and verbal communication skills
Experience of business development and client relationship management
Good external professional network; to support the growth of the Team
Relationships with the public and private sectors
In-depth knowledge of town planning legislation and case law
IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet)
