The Role
This is an exciting time to join the Law Society of England and Wales during a period of real change and opportunity for the legal profession. Leading four separate teams across England, Wales, Brussels and our international team, your role will direct the Society’s influencing capability to represent our members effectively. This will require you to be a strong leader and manager with a convincing track record of influencing government policy development and also of achieving successful outcomes through national campaigning. You will have existing relationships across Westminster and be accomplished at working in a complex organisation. You’ll be in regular contact with the Law Society’s senior team, including the CEO and the President. The post requires an individual with tenacity and charisma, who can win over both internal and external stakeholders.

Experience of leading a large public affairs team
Strong links to Westminster
Ability to liaise and influence at a very senior level
Experience within the legal sector would be very welcome
Skills
You will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:
First degree or equivalent experience
Significant experience of leading a public affairs function, or similar, in a high profile and complex organisation with international reach
A track record of successive delivery in public affairs and/or campaigns, from development to implementation
Extensive knowledge of the workings of and interrelationships between Westminster, the devolved bodies (notably Wales), EU institutions and other relevant international organisations/bodies
Strong stakeholder management abilities with expertise in influencing and developing relationships with senior stakeholders
Experience in leading a large team
Ability to work in a fast paced and issues rich environment with a strong member/customer focus
Expertise in effectively managing a budget and demonstrating return on an investment
Significant knowledge and understanding of current affairs, particularly justice and business issues, in the national, European and international arenas
Successful development and implementation of stakeholder management programmes
