Job Description:
We are seeking a global sector specialist analyst to sit within the Global Equity team with responsibility for covering global Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Medical Technology, Services and Emerging Healthcare Technologies.
The position of Global Healthcare Analyst is a compelling opportunity for a research analyst with a proven track record of detailed fundamental research. The analyst we seek will have an appreciation for a income, international, unconstrained and long-short investment strategy. Working closely with other members of the investment team, this individual will conduct detailed fundamental research on particular stocks for inclusion into various portfolio managers' portfolios.
Reporting directly to the Head of the London-based Global Equity team, the Healthcare Analyst is responsible for the entire sector rather than just one niche industry. As such, the analyst is required to cover stocks across many sub-sectors. Investments are generally selected from a portfolio of analysts' best ideas. Analysts should be style agnostic (neither growth nor value) since style is not fundamental to the selection process.
The Global Healthcare Analyst will need to conduct independent research; attend company meetings, trade shows and conferences as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct fundamental research across the different healthcare sub-sectors globally, including financial analysis, meeting company management, industry analysis, conferences, and interactions across BlackRock equity teams.
Generate high conviction investment ideas for a variety of strategies across the risk spectrum. Contribute to the team’s discussions of individual ideas, setting conviction within the Defensive research group, and more widely in the context of the team’s overall portfolio strategies.
Knowledge/Experience:
Extensive fundamental equity research experience required.
Proven alpha generation in a sell-side research or buy-side analyst / fund management role where primary research has included the Healthcare sector within an international context.
Experience covering small, mid, and large cap stocks.
Experience as an independent researcher and stock picker who does not rely on the sell-side for stock ideas.
Marketing aptitude and strong communication skills
CFA equivalent qualification preferred
University degree required
Original and independent thinker, able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Competencies:
Strong fundamental research skills with particular strength in financial analysis and experience within the Global Healthcare sector.
A process that includes comparison of key metrics, breakup values, DCFs, peak and trough valuations, assessment of upside and downside potential, analysis of key drivers and inflection points, rating stocks based on fundamental research and analysis, and effectively communicating ratings and recommendations to portfolio managers.
Independent thinking coupled with a proven ability to work with - and make an impact in - an established team
The successful candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to generate high conviction, well-thought-out, and supported investment ideas of different types and risk profiles, including but not limited to, value, growth, income, high risk-reward etc.
Strong business sense: The candidate must possess a broad understanding of business models, industry dynamics, and competitive analysis.
The candidate must also have strong presentational skills in both small and larger group settings. All senior team members contribute extensively to communicating with clients, prospects, investment consultants, the media and so forth, which are all critical to building and growing a successful investment team.
The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work more broadly within an organisation where information-sharing is critical to the success of all teams across asset classes.
