The Financial Director – Aircraft Support reports to the Finance Director of BDUK. In this role, you’ll be partnering with the programme leadership to drive financial performance and manage risk across the programme portfolio. You will lead a team of financial and commercial professionals to help deliver the programme’s significant growth expectations and meet ever more challenging financial goals whilst protecting the enterprise and adhering to the highest standards of ethics and compliance. As a member of the Finance senior leadership team for BDUK you will help formulate and deliver our functional priorities and strategies, aimed at creating an internationally recognised centre of excellence delivering value as a trusted partner through powerful advice and innovation. The successful candidate for this role will already be leading a team of Finance professionals to support a small division or major programme, managing long-term contracts. You will have demonstrated outstanding leadership capabilities and be recognised as a creator of value in your current organization and will be looking for the opportunity to progress to a CFO role in the medium term.
Strong leadership and business partnering skills are a pre requisite, as well as in-depth understanding and direct experience of commercial negotiations, business planning, scheduling and analysis. This needs to be combined with experience working and succeeding in a complex, international, matrix environment.
Responsibilities:

• Support Programme Managers, organizations and functional areas to set stretching financial objectives
• Apply budget and schedule management principles and practices to ensure that realistic budgets are set and attained for multiple projects across the programme
• Monitor organizational financial and schedule metrics to support budgetary planning and to determine corrective action to maintain target performance levels
• Work with the team to develop financial forecasts and report against them, completing programme Estimates at Completion (EAC) to assess the financial status of the programme throughout programme life
• Develop and implement large-scale, high impact integrated organizational plans to ensure business, technical and customer requirements are achieved
• Work with other senior Finance leaders to streamline processes and improve communication across organizational and geographical boundaries
• Coach and mentor employees and first level managers / team leads, as well as providing development opportunities and support to expand the capabilities of the team
• Create a culture of continuous improvement in the team by communicating and deploying best practice to improve cost, quality, delivery, employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction
• Establish strong relationships with external customers in the UK Ministry of Defence
• Act as delegate for the Finance Director when required, to provide financial leadership and authority to the business
Goals for the next 12 months:

• Help grow the Aircraft Support business by realizing opportunities for expansion of current rotorcraft support services portfolio into fixed wing support
• Develop and negotiate commercial proposals for delivery of fixed wing support services and establish the business infrastructure to support execution of these key new programmes
• Create and share a vision for the financial performance of the business
• Manage programme resource levels, utilisation and overheads whilst leading the challenge to make our services more affordable
• Work with programme managers to develop and deliver margin improvement plans for current programmes
• In conjunction with the core Finance team, improve Finance productivity through better use of systems and reporting and streamlined processes.
• Build effective external customer relationships to enable swift resolution of commercial issues
• Reinforce good governance over local expenditure and decision-making
