We are looking for someone to lead the craft and culture of art at Criterion. This person will inspire, influence, coach, and develop artists at Criterion.

What a Studio Art Director does at Criterion:

As a leader you will set your own priorities but a typical week could include:

Collaborating with Designers, Tech Directors, Producers and DDs to create an environment where our artists can excel
Working with craft leaders to define visual identity
Leading the team to deliver on artistic vision
Communicating artistic direction to the team
Prioritising quality throughout production with the Art Craft Leads, Technical Artists and engineers
Providing effective feedback to artists on craft skills and performance
Managing and mentoring lead artists and providing them with career growth opportunities
Hiring great artists

Additional abilities a Studio Art Director needs:

You don’t have to be all things to all people, however your art skills will establish you as a credible art leader. This is probably a mix of:

Excellent visual language skills to create a distinctive look with the use of lighting, tone, and atmosphere
Understanding of state of the art lighting, shading and post-process techniques
The ability to articulate art direction to artists and non-artists alike
Cinematic direction
Character and environmental development

Experience and knowledge we are looking for

We are looking for someone with the experience and knowledge to understand the creative challenges facing artists and leaders at Criterion, allowing you to coach and develop your team.
Preparedness for this role is rooted in:

Prior experience as Art Director or Lead artist
Solid understanding of art and development practices
Broad interest in aspects of visual art outside of video and computer games
Passion for gaming
Experience building an art team and delivering against time and tech constraints
