Commercial Strategy Controller PepsiCo Reading

This role leads the team looking after our Nutrition Brands (Tropicana, Quaker, Copella, Naked & Scott's). As a key member of the Nutrition Categories Leadership Team, your role will be to work across a wide range of commercial levers. You will develop strategic plans that grow our business, whilst balancing profit & share performance by making appropriate recommendations and managing execution through our commercial teams.

Success will require working with a wide variety of internal stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Commercial Finance, Shopper / Consumer Insights and Operations as well as with external research and consultancy partners.

You will report into the Senior Director - Commercial Strategy and will lead a team of two direct reports. You will also sit on the Nutrition Category Leadership team.

Given the unprecedented level of change currently impacting UK Grocery, this role is increasingly critical in guiding our commercial decision making within the context of an uncertain marketplace.

PepsiCo has historically used our Commercial Strategy team to recruit talent from top tier consultancies. The ideal candidate will have experience of working for a major Strategy Consulting firm with direct case experience in the UK Retail / Consumer Goods sector.

Key Activities:

Develop the growth roadmap for the UK business by:

Identifying where we have growth opportunities within specific retailers and shopping channels, and establish what is required to succeed in each of these from brand, commercial proposition, internal capability & investment perspective.
Working with Marketing teams to develop commercially relevant brand plans that address white space in the categories within which we operate.
Analysing retailer and competitor strategies to identify implications for our brands.
Understanding the implications of different growth options for both our business and that of our retail customers; guide the business in making strategic choices.
Develop and execute commercial plans that deliver against this roadmap by:

Developing pack, pricing and promotional plans that leverage consumer insights to balance internal and retailer KPIs and account for competitor strategies.
Prioritising our commercial spend to ensure that we invest to beat the competition in the highest potential retail growth spaces and within key shopper segments.
Modelling volume and financial implications of different strategic options
Leading 3rd party research projects, working with insights & agencies to inform our commercial strategy.
Presenting proposals to senior forums to gain alignment (UK Exec)
Executing the annual commercial plan - co-ordinate across functional teams and project manage decision making and execution process.
Driving analysis and decisions at our operating board to course correct performance.
Deliver strategic projects

As required to address performance issues, address capability gaps or work on business development opportunities beyond our core business.

Ability to interact with and influence senior business decision makers
Commercial instinct to understand key business drivers
Strong strategic & problem solving skills
Ability to extract key messages from complex data
High level of numerical and analytical skills essential - strong Excel modelling
Creating simple solutions & crafting clear communications - excellent Powerpoint
Experience of presenting complex business cases in senior forums
Proven high-performance track record at work, with strong academic background
Experience of managing and leading high calibre teams
