Principal Architect - Big Data - Altius - London

Job description

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to help clients take advantage of Big Data. By crafting information management platforms that help enterprise clients take advantage of huge volumes of unstructured data, the Principal Architect will push the boundaries and limitations of traditional business intelligence solutions by leveraging cloud, open source and mega vendor technologies to interrogate data on a massive scale. The role will involve a mixture of pre-sales, strategy & hands-on technical architecture, advisory and technical solution delivery.

Principal responsibilities will include:

Acting as the lead technical authority for the design and development of Big Data solutions, taking advantage of modern technologies, architectures and methods to organise and interrogate huge volumes of unstructured data.
Helping clients to understand and envision the possibilities afforded by the emergence of Big Data as a new technology paradigm.
Advising clients and the leadership team on technical best practice for Big Data, from software selection through to technical architectures and implementation processes.
Engaging with clients throughout the lifecycle on both advisory and delivery assignments.
Actively supporting Pre-Sales effort by envisioning pragmatic solutions to meet the clients’ complex requirements.
Leading the on going development of the Big Data practice from a technical perspective.

Desired Skills and Experience

You will be both a career technology consultant and technical solutions architect with exceptional experience in the deployment of enterprise solutions for Information Management, Analytics and Business Intelligence, coupled with exceptional personal drive and ambition to progress your career.



Principal skills will include:

Deep experience in the design of Big Data solutions with architectural concepts including MapReduce (Hadoop), MIKE 2.0, and Distributed Parallel architecture.
Appreciation of the infrastructure concepts required to support Big Data solutions, such as cloud-based computing, distributed file systems, distributed databases and grid computing.
Experience of Big Data visualisation and analytics.
Exceptional customer facing skills including presentation, pre-sales support, proposal writing and business proposition development.
Comfort when dealing with CxO level clients and being challenged to prove technical concepts.
Developed appreciation for the potential applications of Big Data in areas such as social media, telecommunications, security, government, retail and financial services.
