Job Description
The Corporate Chief Technology Office is looking for a new Director of Technology Investments & Partnerships. The main role of position holder is the technical and business assessment of startup companies for acquisition, investment and partnership purposes.
The individual will primarily support activities based in Northern Europe. In addition to establishing and nurturing strong internal relationships with the various Business Lines of the company, the individual will also interact significantly with the main VCs and investment bankers active in the Technology, Media, Telecoms (TMT) space and have frequent interactions with startups.
The individual will work closely with the Finance M&A team to support the execution of the acquisition and investment decisions, and with the Corporate Strategy team for broader projects.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Interacting with internal stakeholders (Business Lines representatives, Finance, Legal, Strategy and CTO colleagues) to identify innovation gaps and propose startup candidates.
Assessing such candidates on a technological and business basis.
Interacting externally with investment bankers to identify possible acquisition and investment targets, as well as with VCs to review their portfolios for acquisition, investment or partnership.
Drafting tailored investment or acquisition memos typically for Executive Committee review
Working closely with the Finance M & A team that are supporting the execution of the acquisition and investment decisions, and with the Corporate Strategy team for broader projects
Required qualifications, skills, experience:
Demonstrated technical and business understanding of the Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) space and particularly software applied to Telcos
Ability to communicate with impact in both written and oral form to senior leadership and executive audience
Capacity to interact personally with confidence
Willingness to travel frequently across Northern Europe
Preferred qualifications, skills, experience:
Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences.
Holder of an MBA or other business/legal related qualification
Previous experience working in complex environments with distributed decision process.
Other details:
Relocation is an option. The position is based in Cambridge to facilitate direct interactions with startups located in the UK and Ireland, as well as with our local Bell Labs offices. Villarceaux, France is also a possible location (however frequent travel across Northern Europe will be required).
