The School is also about to commence a major capital project which will see it move into new state-of-the-art premises within the next few years. Part of the development will be an upgrade of the University Ancillary Unit and this provides the opportunity for the Director to provide professional leadership to the staff working in that Unit.
To support these ambitions, we are looking to recruit a Technical Services Director to lead our technical infrastructure.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director will have a significant strategic role in shaping and running an extensive range of technical services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a wealth of experience in the delivery of quality services in a complex environment. As well as extensive personal expertise and delivery in a technical field or fields, the Director will demonstrate leadership and diplomatic skills which will bring about substantial change in a collegial way. They will be an experienced manager able to lead and motivate a team. We are looking to ensure that we have the right structures in place so that we move into our new building with a high quality technical services provision. We will want the Director to provide leadership and best practice experience to deliver this.
Amongst other duties, the Director will have responsibility for
Staff who deliver technical support for both teaching and research.
Providing technical support to the complex facilities and equipment within Life Sciences
Health and safety within Life Sciences, requiring extensive personal experience and training.
Laboratory space-planning and usage.
