This newly created role provides the opportunity for an ambitious leader to shape the Student Employability Strategy for the University of York. You will further develop the collection of activities and services we’ve created into a sector-leading provision, resulting in improved levels of professional work and study for our students.
Championed by our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Koen Lamberts, our Student Employability Strategy aims to strengthen our support for student employability and our Careers Operation. You will lead a team of over 30 staff who provide this rich range of services to students and recruiters. You will work closely with senior management and staff in our nine colleges and with our students’ unions, all of which are also committed to enhancing students’ employability.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead and deliver real improvements, working with a strong team and in an institution that is committed to the success of the student employability agenda.
Desired Skills and Experience
Degree qualification (or equivalent) and relevant higher qualification in an area such as training and development, CIPD, careers guidance or management
In-depth understanding of the higher education environment in a national and international context
Senior leadership experience in graduate employability and professional level talent management
Extensive network of contacts with leading national graduate recruiters
Knowledge of how higher education students are prepared for success in the graduate labour market
Evidence of initiating successful, entrepreneurial developments with partner organisations or of developing income-generating initiatives that align with strategic goals
Experience of developing an ambitious strategy and of building and leading a team to deliver the strategy
