Our Midlands Region tax team is focussed on advising client across a broad range of industries including manufacturing, retail, distribution and service industry clients ranging from owner managed businesses, international groups, smaller listed companies and private equity backed portfolio companies.
The GCMS service area within the Tax practice is one of the fastest growing areas and is widely considered the market leader in this area both within the UK and internationally. The GCMS offering is focused on managing the compliance aspects for large clients including:
- Managing tax and statutory compliance/reporting outsourcing work on a regional/global basis; and
- Consulting on tax processes and technology aspects.
Roles and Responsibilities
This person will have responsibility for leading the GCMS offering in the Midlands Region team. This will include winning new work by managing proposals and actively pursuing discussions with client and targets as well as managing the delivery of projects within the team.
A typical project will include working with multiple stakeholders and teams across Tax and Accounting/Finance (at both the client and KPMG).
The candidate must be able to:
- Lead on proposals and other target meetings for GCMS in the Midlands Region team;
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships with both existing and new clients;
- Generate additional work opportunities;
- Project manage the overall delivery of global and UK large corporate outsourcing projects within the Midlands Region team; and
- Manage process/technology consulting projects covering a range of areas (e.g. process improvements/mapping etc) by leveraging the expertise or knowledge developed in tax compliance and reporting work
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate must be
- ACA or CTA qualified or equivalent; and/or
- Project Management qualifications
Experience and Background
The successful candidate will have some (at least 5) of the following skills:
- A sales focus and a desire to build relationships with new clients.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication skills. Communicates with impact, in a way that is open, honest, consistent and clear.
- Takes personal responsibility and accountability for own work. Sustains a high level of drive, shows enthusiasm and a positive attitude when coping with pressure at work.
- Project management/co-ordination skills and experience (e.g. on other global compliance outsourcing engagements). Strong organisational skills to manage large and complex projects/programmes and ability to interact with different stakeholders at all levels. A commercial approach to resolving issues.
- A consulting mind-set which allows for innovative thinking in the area of compliance consulting.
- A good understanding of compliance and reporting risk and controls areas (Sarbanes Oxley, practical insights).
- Some awareness of how tax interacts with accounting systems although specialist technology knowledge is not required.
- Gives clear directions, positive and constructive feedback. Coaches less experienced staff.
- Continuously learns from experiences. Seeks out feedback and development opportunities. Works in a cooperative, respectful manner with colleagues, clients and the wider community.
- Analyses problems, identifies core issues, investigates, evaluates and integrates information.
- Builds the reputation of KPMG through the quality of work, knowledge and experience.
The successful candidate must have experience in:
- managing a multinational client portfolio
- Providing tax compliance, bookkeeping, financial reporting and advisory services to clients
- managing global client compliance projects from proposal to implementation stage.
