Job description
PURPOSE
Manage a credit portfolio in support of RBC Investor & Treasury Services (I&TS) custody clients.
Manage credit transactions (e.g. FX, committed credit, overdraft, etc) originated by the I&TS front office, including front office and the various trading businesses of ITS within the asset and fund management space, while safeguarding the credit quality of the trading and loan credit portfolio.
Work with the front office, FX dealing desk, and various businesses in I&TS to (i) identify and recommend suitable credit counterparties; (ii) facilitate the credit process, including evaluating and screening requests, preparing transaction requests, risk assessments and seeking business head support (iii) co-ordinate the documentation process, including structuring appropriate credit mitigation, and assist in client negotiations, and (iv) post transaction and portfolio management
Client coverage focused on enhancing credit relationships in support of front office business growth and credit management.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Proactively work with the front office and FX sale and trading to analyse new counterparties, review limit requests and liaise with appropriate I&TS account management teams and GRM-Credit in order to manage credit approvals.
Undertake credit due diligence, counterparty analysis, trading requirements and relevant industry information for credit proposals.
Develop relationships with I&TS clients in order to understand their credit needs and support front office business development.
Actively manage the documentation process – reviewing ISDA / Loan documentation, liaising with credit risk management; I&TS Legal and other documentation groups as appropriate.
Work proactively with trading and loan businesses to recommend strategic credit limits. Present and defend limit requests at Industry Operating Committee and manage strategic limits between desks.
Ensure all credit requests are supported by a strong business case. Prepare and recommend business cases for business head approval.
Develop and carry-out client coverage plans for a set of top tier asset managers with the focus on enhancing credit relationships in areas that include operations, legal, middle and front offices.
Provide project and policy support for a variety of new initiatives.
Actively support and promote RBC’s credit culture, to include emphasizing the importance of credit management and RBC’s enterprise risk framework, as well as the need to find a balance between credit risk and business rewards.
AUTHORITIES, IMPACT, RISK
Assignment of a portfolio of counterparties within the Fund sector which includes over 200 investment managers with credit limits allocated to a large number of individual counterparties.
Strong impact on revenue generation and credit quality in the cash, committed credit and trading businesses through direct client coverage and front office support.
Support measured business growth while managing portfolio credit quality.
Serve as the key reference point to assist sales and relationship professionals in the development of business cases and strategies in accordance with policy and procedures. These strategies are the crucial element used to obtain limits, identify revenue opportunities and assist in overall risk management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Strong credit analysis skills
In-depth knowledge of trading products including derivatives (FX, interest rate swaps, credit derivatives, etc) and securities finance products (repos and securities lending)
In-depth knowledge of the custody business and fund structures across key jurisdictions, investment strategies, and related credit needs
Strong knowledge of trading documentation - ISDA, CSA, CSD
Technical skills required include; high proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); Strong research skills; solid understanding of financial statements; high aptitude for reviewing legal trading documentation
Knowledge of relevant regulatory legislation and awareness of legislative and capital markets trends and developments
Understanding of investment strategies including some of the more complex like fixed income arbitrage, convertible bond arbitrage, risk arbitrage, long-short equity, global macro and high yield
Behavioural competencies required include; leadership; analytical skills, critical thinking, strong communication skills, teamwork, initiative, strong organization and time management skills (prioritize and re-prioritize tasks to meet demands of high paced trading environment).

Required Education:
Minimum post-graduate (MBA) and/or CFA
Native French speaker or high fluency
Preferred Experience:
At least 10 years of previous credit portfolio management and/or risk management experience.
Previous relationship management experience
WORKING CONDITIONS (Legislative Requirement)
Frequent interaction with sales and trading staff may require a presence on the trading floor. The “open” environment requires the ability to balance analysis functions (reading documents & completing written assessments) with accommodating transaction requests from floor staff. Fast paced, unstructured environment where priorities change frequently.
Unstructured workflow/schedule with extended hours in order to meet trading desk and client needs
The demands on the position are substantial; the level of stress incurred is directly related to the incumbent’s ability to organize tasks and functions among the team members while meeting time-sensitive objectives.
