Job Description
The Global Director of Communications develops and leads the global internal and external communications strategy for VisionFund International, and will lead the development and implementation of a new five year communications strategy and add direction to the marketing strategy. This will ensure that the VisionFund network is known for its work and impact to a range of key audiences, and will help meet the ambitious new five year organisational strategy, to positively impact 9million children a year by 2019.



This role will support the organisational strategy by overseeing the provision of effective communication support and by drawing upon VisionFund thought leadership and research resource to support our Voice of Influence and Fundraising outcomes. The role will establish a global communications strategy to ensure the work of World Vision and VisionFund is deployed to maximum effect and is financially sound through inspiring and resourcing World Vision Support Offices.

Key Responsibilities
To develop and implement a successful communications strategy that distinguishes and raises the profile and work of VFI and the VisionFund network, both internally and externally, support the strategy of One Network, solid foundations, Industry differentiation from other microfinance organizations and support to fundraising.
To have strategic responsibility for all communications including internal comms, media management, reputation and brand management, advocacy and core messaging.
Oversee our internal communications, including via our intranet/s. In particular, you will co-ordinate the organisation-wide actions relating to the Partnership and internal communications. You will manage appropriate publications, events, forums and feedback processes.
Create and execute a strategy to ensure VFI MFI communications network of staff is developed and operating as a unit which can contribute to and share in the global centre communications, using a combination of public relations and events, data driven marketing and digital marketing.
Lead external communications. To act as the key point of contact for WV and external audiences seeking information, clarification and media opportunities around VisionFunds work.
To play an active participatory part in the Microfinance CEO Working Group Microfinance Communications Council (MCWG MCC) to promote both VisionFund International and the industry as a whole.
To support advocacy initiatives to leverage our reputation in driving greater financial access and client protection and care. To promote and maintain a positive image for VFI and the industry it represents including through proactive research-based communications, VFI digital communications strategy; delivery of high quality external events.
To provide crisis management, communications support and expertise if needed and contribute to our Business Continuity Plan.
To lead and participate in any other projects or tasks that might be requested by the Chief Executive.
To be responsible for implementing public relations and public affairs strategies, to protect our reputation and promote our work in a regulatory environment.
To provide sector expertise to colleagues centrally and globally on all matters relating to communications and reputation with regard to VisionFund and microfinance.
To act as a spokesperson for media enquiries and interviews as required, bringing in technical VFI expertise as required, and to create and implement a media training programme for key representatives across the VFI network.
To work with the Marketing Director to oversee, support and integrate a successful marketing strategy with the corporate communications strategy, to support fundraising and operations of VFI and World Vision, and the VisionFund network.To understand and incorporate directional campaigns and a brand strategy based on desk research, stakeholder mapping and deep analysis.
To lead donor segmentation and prospectus development capabilities. To champion and act as guardian of the brand and reputation of VFI. Support the strengthening of local brand within MFI countries through alignment of communications with marketing.
To conceive and develop new ways to leverage and communicate the brand in support of VFI and the VisionFund network communications.
As a member of the Senior Executive Team (SET), contribute to the development and implementation of the VisionFund strategic and annual plans.
To promote the work of VisionFund both externally and to the wider Partnership, building solid reputation by proactively executing a strategy aligned to the organisation strategy. Informing and raising awareness internally across the Partnership, of progress and operations on a regular basis.
To enhance the VFI reputation internally and externally through innovation and positioning to demonstrate the mission both supports WV and is supported by WV.
Develop leaders within the group through clearly thought out programs and staff coached to success.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
:
University degree or equivalent communications qualification.
Journalism experience desired solid verbal and written communications.
Able to execute as well as manage; hands on approach.
Minimum 15 years in corporate communications and marketing environment dealing with senior executives. Preferably experience in financial institutions.
Alternatively a solid NGO communications, marketing or fundraising background.
This person has worked in an environment where they come into contact with opinion formers and high profile ambassadors. They must be confident in a corporate boardroom or dealing one-to-one with a HNWI or a high profile media contact.
Experience as a leader, building and managing teams.
Experience of agency management.
Confident in their ability to advise at board level and to challenge existing perceptions and modus operandi.
Confident to articulate their views, persuasive in their arguments backed up by demonstrable experience.
Able to communicate and differentiate appropriate messaging to a range of stakeholders.
A good working knowledge and understanding of the value of marketing.
Member of CIPR or local equivalent.
Effective in written and verbal communication in English.
Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple priorities and projects with flexibility on hours to contact people within wide timezone differences.
Must be cross culturally sensitive as will work with associates from every area of the world. Good knowledge of world affairs, e.g. humanitarian crises, conflict zones, political and cultural awareness in context.
Persuasive and negotiating style to achieve the buy in of key internal and external stakeholders and WV partners.
