This role ensures staff focus on the most important news of the day and finds coverage efficiencies to produce the most competitive, forward-looking and innovative report possible. The Deputy Director sets priorities and drives reporting and coverage for a new media age, deploying staff, managing daily expenses and ensuring that the company’s high standards are met.
In addition, the Deputy Director works closely with managers in other regions and departments to understand the needs of AP clients in all formats, and to find creative, competitive ways to deliver content in real time.
The position reports to the News Director for Europe, based in London.

The qualified candidate should have at least five years' experience managing and leading in one of the three major news formats; strong credentials in a cross-format operation; and a deep familiarity with the territory.
Also required:
Demonstrable skills in leading major breaking news and upholding company policies and standards;
Strong news leadership and interpersonal skills, and an ability to manage conflict and improve staff performance;
Excellent news judgment and an ability to push staff to break news quickly and do larger investigative projects;
Work experience in, and understanding of, Europe. A familiarity with TV, newspaper and online customers is a plus;
The ability to juggle many tasks and a hectic schedule and prioritize appropriately;
A proven record of being willing to innovate and experiment to make coverage accessible and appealing to a digital audience;
Experience with social media and innovative digital platforms.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.
