Our highly experienced, regionally-based analysts constantly examine the current and future issues affecting end-users, technology vendors and service providers make extensive use of our research to help shape their strategies in order to successfully adapt to the evolving competitive landscape.
European Industry Solutions is an integral part of IDC. The research covers IT vertical markets from a qualitative and quantitative perspective across European countries. The implications of trends in vertical markets such as Government and Health, Education, Manufacturing, Finance, Utilities, and Retail are analysed to produce detailed forecasts and spending models of IT demand for a variety of clients in IT, both vendors and users of IT, government organisations, and consulting companies.
The role
To lead the Industry Solutions team in Europe. The role of the Research Director is multi-faceted. It involves producing regular insightful content for a dedicated subscription service on European IT Vertical markets (following a defined agenda and publication schedule). The Research Director is also required to drive and deliver custom research and consultancy engagements, which are performed on behalf of a variety of clients and have an equally varied set of deliverables. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing a small team, driving business development, responding to client enquiries; collaborating with colleagues in other business units on shared research publications; coordinating primary research programmes; supporting Sales & Marketing campaigns in pursuit of new business opportunities; and public speaking engagements & media interviews to help raise the profile of IDC European Industry Solutions through the demonstration of genuine thought-leadership.
Desired Skills and Experience
The person
This exceptional opportunity requires an equally exceptional candidate. The position calls for a highly motivated individual who possesses outstanding writing, presentation, client interaction and business development skills. These capabilities will ideally have been developed over the past 7 to 10 years in an IT vendor, market research or advisory organisation, consulting or government research organisation. A thorough grounding in economics or econometrics would be desirable.
The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate a deep-seated understanding of the current and future business challenges impacting on the vertical sectors in the IT markets, and the enabling role played by technology to directly address these issues. This knowledge will have been gained through the ongoing analysis of industry developments. Education to degree standard and fluency in written and oral English is required, and fluency in a second European language would be advantageous. The role will involve some travel, predominately in Europe but occasionally to other regions.
