The Industry Solutions team sits within the Strategic Customers and Solutions ("SCS”) unit of the Thomson Reuters Financial & Risk division. SCS owns the relationship with the most systematically influential financial institutions - a large collection of 67 buy-side and sell-side worldwide accounts. SCS coordinates the two-way flow of industry insight, sets the commercial strategy to maximize revenue, re-frames the relationship with third parties and establishes a rigorous approach to large-scale customer engagements. The unit serves to create, scale and promote best practices and works with dedicated regional resources on strategic account planning and services, as well as driving industry-changing initiatives.

The Industry Solutions team is responsible for identifying, defining, and executing new business opportunities for the Financial & Risk division. The team looks for initiatives that are anchored in commercial reality with our clients and then works in horizontal teams with colleagues across relevant Thomson Reuters business sectors to develop robust business cases and deliver initiatives that are approved for execution. Delivery can take the form of organic development, strategic partnerships, and/or acquisitions.

Role Purpose And Summary

Play a leading role in identifying, defining, and executing multiple new business opportunities. These initiatives can include launching new businesses that leverage Thomson Reuters capabilities in new ways, extending existing propositions to increase revenue footprint and strengthen positioning in the marketplace, and defining partnership opportunities to address client challenges.
During the identification of potential initiatives, the Solutions Execution Director will work with/manage other members of the Industry Solutions team to evaluate and prioritize prospective opportunities based on market trends, value to the client, commercial opportunity, and Thomson Reuters’ strategic positioning.
When opportunities under consideration move to the detailing phase, the Solutions Execution Director will lead detailed business case development aimed at defining requirements Thomson Reuters would have to satisfy to meet client needs, validating/refining those requirements in meetings with prospective clients, informing anticipated demand, and quantifying the projected economics from a potential solution/service and the anticipated investment needed to launch it.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Channel market knowledge and navigate the broader organization to identify areas that merit exploration, to understand Thomson Reuters assets that could be leveraged, and to galvanize support from internal subject matter experts
Apply transactional philosophy to evaluate and prioritize opportunities in terms of Thomson Reuters positioning, existing relevant capabilities, and time/cost to deliver
Produce client engagement materials that frame critical challenges faced by the industry and explain how the Thomson Reuters solution under investigation will address the problem; client feedback will inform anticipated demand and whether to proceed with opportunity exploration
Day-to-day management of the development of one or more propositions
Where an opportunity includes a strategic investment or partnership element, perform due diligence on prospective target(s)/partner(s)
Prepare materials that will be used in Investment Committee meetings to receive approval and/or funding to proceed to the next stage

Required Experience And Skills

Experience required:
Extensive professional experience, significantly in a strategy consulting/business development capacity (either in an external management consultancy or in an internal strategy team of an organization)
Financial services experience required and financial technology experience a plus
Experience in leading & managing significant projects

Skills Required

Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability in designing a structured approach to solve unstructured problems and in scoping work
Proven ability to develop ideas from concept to an executable plan
Capable of applying him/herself to a varied array of subject matters by “moving up the learning curve” rapidly
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to internal and external stakeholders
High degree of emotional intellect and self-awareness
Driven, but able to take constructive feedback and adjust course dynamically
Collaborative and apolitical approach
