Job Description:
The Director, Group Investment Operations will carry out or oversee certain other “CIO Office” activities, as required. These activities are listed below.
In conjunction with local and Group resources, design strategic asset allocation (SAA) and where applicable tactical asset allocation (TAA) policy reflecting desired outcomes and constraints
Oversee investment operations, including
Implementation of SAA
Asset manager relationships, including selection, mandating, monitoring/ assessment of asset managers

Investment risk and performance measurement, monitoring and management, critically including granular management of liquidity
Design, development and maintenance of a strong control environment, including appropriate systems and skill base
Business-as-usual input to statutory (including regulatory) reporting and query processes
Risk management and asset-liability management (ALM): in conjunction with local and Group resources, support the design, implementation, monitoring and ongoing management of hedging programmes to maintain risk within Board risk appetite levels
Governance: as appropriate, facilitate oversight by local and Group governance bodies
People: build and manage a team of investment management professionals
Systems: build and maintain data and analytics platform for GI/AII businesses, consistent with Group framework and approach

Qualifications
First degree. Relevant additional professional qualifications.
Skills/knowledge/experience

Markets professional with prior experience at senior level in an insurance company investment management and/or asset liability management environment. The candidate will have
Experience of designing and implementing investment management frameworks, including systems and related processes
Knowledge of a range of investment markets and asset classes, their key risk and return drivers and their application to insurance company investment and asset-liability management portfolios. Experience in derivatives markets as well as with cash market investments, including alternative fixed income asset classes
Prior experience of working with insurers and asset managers in the design and implementation of models, mandates and processes to implement investment strategy, asset allocation and derivatives-based risk management in an insurance company context
Close understanding of industry issues and ability to think through these at a strategic level
Knowledge of Solvency II and experience with its application. Ability to engage with other regulatory frameworks where required
Strong orientation to and track record of delivery/execution
Creative thinker with ability to innovate to create value as well as to problem-solve
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience leading major initiatives, coordinating teams and managing multiple stakeholders and relationships, including governance processes
Leadership and people management experience (latter can be in a smaller team context). Leads by example. High levels of commitment and performance.
