We are seeking a dynamic manager to lead the John Lewis Online (eCommerce) Applications Operations team in IT Operations, with extensive experience of critical high transaction/value customer facing systems. They will require a focus on delivering customer satisfaction and maximising business value, whilst nurturing the values of the UK’s largest co-owned business where the happiness of ‘Partners’ (i.e. employee’s) is our number one principle.

The team are responsible for support of the award winning johnlewis.com website with annual sales over £1.5bn, representing around 40% of total sales, as well as support for a portfolio of other systems including the Telesales and Order Management systems used by the call centre. This is a high profile role with Black Friday and Clearance Sale launches requiring strong planning and leadership skills, combined with a calm approach under pressure, and ability to effectively manage Director level stakeholders.

This is an exciting high growth area of the business which is looking to embrace modern delivery and release methods, so experience of Automation, Agile, DevOps, Continuous Delivery, etc, would be highly advantageous. Maintaining operational stability is key, which will be facilitated by ongoing engagement with business Product Owners and large delivery projects. Current initiatives include: launch of a new ‘responsive’ mobile website, a major upgrade of Oracle ATG, and a replatforming onto the latest Oracle Exalogic and Exadata technologies.
Job RequirementsThe key responsibilities are as follows:

- Set the strategic direction across the application portfolio and lead the team to ensure the provision of operational excellence across a significant and business critical application area.
- Build, maintain and encourage excellent relationships with key business stakeholders, projects and suppliers.
- Ensure that the Business Continuity plan is in place, is reviewed regularly and applied effectively whenever a major incident occurs.
- Understand the business strategic roadmap and work across IT to influence strategic direction making and to ensure that the direction of application operations across the portfolio can meet the required demands.
- Lead significant continuous improvements to applications operations and provide the best business value in IT investments over the short and long term.
- Ensure that there is early engagement in all projects in the Online space so that influence can be brought to bear on the design and supportability of the delivered solutions.
- Lead, manage and motivate the team to achieve excellent results and embrace change and ensure that the spirit of shared ownership is encouraged and supported.
- Take full responsibility for budgeting, estimating, planning and objective setting across the agreed application area.
- Shared responsibility within the Operations leadership team and management point of contact for major incidents out of hours on a rota basis.
Required essential experience skills and qualificationsIt is essential that the successful candidate has skills and experience in the following areas:

- Managed high transaction/value application operations organisations
- Leadership and direction of others and effective delegation
- Embrace and lead change
- Excellent soft skills, in particular relationship building, approachability, decision making, organisation, influencing and coaching
- Ability to clearly understand and align with business priorities
- Ability to quickly absorb knowledge
- ITIL knowledge
Required desirable experience skills and qualifications- Practical understanding of DevOps, Agile, Continuous Deployment, Automation
- Led transformations to increase Release implementation speed, whilst reducing operational impact
- Management of an eCommerce environment (e.g. Oracle ATG, Exalogic, Exadata, etc)
- Effective management of on-shore/off-shore 3rd parties
