Job description
The Corporate Counsel will also be required to engage in various internal projects of the EMEA Legal Team which support the continuous improvement of its services and the development of the expertise of the team.



Main Responsibilities
• Serve as legal advisor/contracts negotiator for applicable business partners in supporting sales and/or services negotiations for the Symantec Enterprise business unit in the UK & Ireland and Emerging Regions – including Software Licensing, Professional Services, Cloud Services, Managed Security Services and Cyber Security Services.

• Provide advice on licensing and hosted services matters and assist the business in structuring transactions

• Review, negotiation and drafting of various contractual documents, including end user software license agreements, software support agreements, professional services agreements, hosted service agreements and responses to proposals, service provider agreements, NDAs and other relevant commercial agreements.

• Supporting EMEA & Global Legal team members on ad hoc projects – as directed.

Personal Profile

• A legal degree or equivalent, preferably specialized in contract/commercial law

• 3-5 years’ experience gained in a corporate environment, either in a multinational company (preferable) or in private practice

• Highly organized and able to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines

• Self-disciplined, able to work without supervision, yet must operate as a team-player

• Enthusiastic, keen to learn and develop; must have a positive, “can-do”, and willing attitude to take on new projects or challenges

• Good communication skills; capable of dealing with external customers and suppliers as well as internal customers

• Able to produce accurate work with attention to detail

• Comfortable working with a ‘multi-site’ team based across EMEA

• Innovative; able to review and potentially improve working practices.

Essential Requirements

• Fully educated lawyer (UK and/or other EMEA jurisdiction) with excellent academic background

• Sound knowledge and experience in practical application of contract law

• Sound working knowledge of commercial, IT/IP law preferably gained in an international environment

• Experience in drafting & negotiation of contracts with end users, service providers and channel partners in IT industries

• IT Literate, with working knowledge of using Word, Excel and Powerpoint

• Fluent in English (other languages desirable)

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience of working in an in-house legal department or private practice

• Experience & knowledge of relevant laws and legal systems in other jurisdiction(s) in Europe, Middle East & Africa region

• Experience of researching and advising on a variety of legal issues

• Knowledge of technology & current trends in software / IT industry

• Ability to research, extract and manipulate data to produce reports and presentations for the team.
