Director Software Delivery Capita London

Job Description
The Software Delivery Director will be responsible for all aspects of delivery of a range of software products both legacy and new within the delivery model.

The role will be both internally and externally focussed and will involve travel to customer sites to promote the products and capabilities of Capita. Additionally the role will require travel to other Capita sites to ensure software development and product strategy is consistent across our division.



The main aim of this role will be to:

1) Undertake day to day executive management of a team of circa 50 individuals within our development community.

2) Ensure Software Development projects are carried out to time, budget and quality constraints.

3) Ensure projects and programmes run smoothly and that we achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.

4) Oversee the development of a new modular suite of applications.

5) Grow, manage and motivate the delivery teams to build our capability in software development.

6) Support pre-sales activity both externally and internally within Capita.

7) Contributing to Bids and Proposals as required.

8) Develop a detailed awareness of the markets served in order to spot opportunities for product development or enhancement.

9) Plan and forecast demand for resources and assist the MD and other senior staff in maximising utilisation of resources.

10) Assist the MD in business planning, forecasting and reporting.



The role is a senior one within the organisation and will operate as part of the Executive Management Team and will contribute to strategy and direction of the profit centre.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Ideally a well-rounded experienced individual who has experience of a software development business and how it operates.

Must have:

• Significant experience of leading a sizeable development activity to deliver multiple software products. Working ideally in an IT Solutions business preferably where software products are the output ;

• A proven track record of leading successful software delivery teams to produce enterprise level applications;

• Experience in the software development lifecycle and implementation of enterprise level software products;

• Must be technically aware and have a good understanding of modern technologies and development methods;

• Experience of operating within both the public and private sectors and ideally within central government and “blue light services”

• The ability to command the respect of customers and colleagues alike

• A comfortable presentation style coming across clearly and knowledgeably

• The ability to communicate comfortably with a range of stakeholders from practitioners to C-level executives/ leaders

• Resource management and planning experience

• Ability to coach and mentor the team under your control

• Commercial acumen having run a Profit and Loss for a period or been responsible for achieving financial targets

• Software development lifecycle knowledge – Waterfall and Agile

• The ability to quickly learn and adapt to the dynamics of the sectors in which we operate

• Good written skills experience of documenting and costing commercial proposals and writing compelling propositions for customers

• Line management experience of a number of staff and their professional development

• Awareness of commercial models and contractual terms

• Operated as part of an executive team driving the strategy and direction of a business or division

• Experience of working with, and the confidence to report at, all levels within an organisation up and including Board Level

• Negotiation skills
