Job Description:
As Director of Digital at the Cabinet Office, you’ll provide visionary leadership for the digital transformation taking place within the government. At the forefront of this is the Government’s ‘Digital by Default’ strategy. To achieve develop and deliver it, you’ll take charge of a talented team of 250 digital professionals with an annual spend of over £60m.
This includes building a new Digital Group strategic consultancy to support other government departments – as well as making the most of existing assets, such as GOV.UK. On top of this, you’ll have a key role in interacting with colleagues and stakeholders across the UK Government.

This is an exceedingly broad and challenging role. As a digital leader, you’ll already have an exceptional track record of driving digital innovation and transformation. This will likely be within a multi-divisional and highly visible organisation. Your background will include extensive experience as an inspiring leader, natural communicator and brilliant organiser – as well as the gravitas and credibility that comes with such a role. In addition to all of this, you’ll have detailed knowledge of the latest digital tools – and will be in your element dealing with stakeholders at board level and across government.

Desired Skills and Experience
This is a challenging role and the successful candidate will be central to the delivery of a major change in the way GDS works with departments across government. This candidate should be an exceptional digital leader with experience at the most senior levels of a complex, multi divisional and highly visible organization.

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate the following skills:

● Experience delivering inspirational organisational leadership, as well as team leadership, able to build the vision for the future, communicate it within and beyond the organisation, encourage engagement and motivate delivery.

● The personal stature and professional knowledge of the digital agenda to gain the confidence of key stakeholders at board and executive level across government and with the supplier market, in order to confidently challenge as necessary.

● Exemplary stakeholder management skills with the ability to build, maintain and leverage networks; a strong influencer, collegiate in approach and able to gain consensus among colleagues across organisational boundaries. The ability to balance and mitigate tensions and dependencies across a broad range of senior leaders, build consensus and successfully implement strategic change management across varied, high profile and changing environments

● Experience of developing digital transformation strategies and managing the delivery of associated technical services to provide effective digital, customer-facing services.

● Detailed knowledge of a range of digital tools and techniques and evidence of the successful application of these to deliver improved user experience and reduce service delivery costs in a large-scale, complex environment. Ability to demonstrate the creation or shaping of commercial models around digital tools, services and platforms

● Experience of working with and delivering through a range of public and private organisations.

In addition, the following skills would be advantageous:

Experience of working with complex transactional platforms and services covering publishing and identity assurance specifically would be advantageous.
