Within Serve and under Engineering there is a department Design, Build and Deployment. Within this department is a functional group of Project Managers which sit in Network Delivery.
This Group's primary role is the delivery of:
Major projects which impact functions across the Engineering Division.
Data, TV and Transmission projects that are designed and delivered largely within their domain.
Service and Business Continuous Service Improvements which deliver step changes to our internal processes and effectiveness in addition to the customer experience in their use of our products and services.
Role Purpose
The Network Delivery Senior Project Manager’s primary role is to act as Technical Programme Manager to interface with internal and external departments for the delivery of the technical aspects of cross functional /Divisional projects across the all Virgin Media divisions. These projects will be run using approved/recognised project management and resource alignment tools. This role will also provide the necessary technical input to ensure successful project viability and start-up.
Key Accountabilities
Design, build & deploy core data, transmission, voice, TV and M&E network infrastructure that adheres to quality and regulatory standards, has minimal customer impact throughout transition, is successfully handed over to operational management, realises the business benefits and meets the cost and delivery time requirements of stakeholders
Ensure that all design, build and deployment activities adheres to the relevant external and internal Health & Safety, working practice, regulatory and statutory requirements
Manage the core network data, transmission, voice, TV and M&E capital budgets and the voice outsource service operational budget ensuring accurate forecasting, expenditure tracking, change control and reporting is established and performance meets financial stakeholder needs
Manage the outsource partner relationship for voice network and M&E infrastructure maintaining governance to ensure contract, technical, regulatory and statutory compliance and the required level of performance and service is consistently delivered at optimal cost
Manage and develop portfolio, programme and project management capabilities across the network engineering organisation ensuring effective, efficient and economic delivery of programmes of work whilst driving industry best practice and continual improvements of our capabilities
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Excellent knowledge of Telecoms, TV and Data Networks related products and services
With specialist knowledge in one or more of the following product categories and/or the technologies that underlay them :-
- Data products based on Ethernet or IP for business use
- Broadband products for residential or SME use
- Narrowband Internet products
- Voice, VOIP and Multimedia products
- IN platform infrastructure and Architecture
- Transmission products ranging from simple leased lines to complete bespoke networks
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience
Suitable experience in a project delivery, planning, operations or complex business collaborative environment. The ability to manage virtual teams working on a number of concurrent large cross functional programmes with a successful track record of delivering such programmes.
Ability to understand complex organisational designs and structures and understands how to relate these to the portfolio being managed.
Advanced stakeholder management, negotiation and conflict management skills
Advanced ability to manage uncertainty and understand the impact of this on portfolio/ project.
Personal skills
A strong inter-personal and collaboration skills
Good leadership and collaboration skills to ensure delivery
Flexible approach to work environment and ability to problem solve and see issues before they impact a programme/project
Ability to motivate and pull together virtual teams across Virgin Media in order to deliver the relevant programme

Member of Project Management Institute
Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience gained within a Telecommunications Carrier or Broadcast environment in delivering large cross functional programmes and projects with a successful track record of completion
